We are happy to inform you that during October 23rd-25th 2020, Scholas Chairs, in collaboration with the Institute for International Cooperation and Development of the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration will organize the 1st International Scholas Chair SNSPA Congress – “Education and Development” – to be held in Bucharest, Romania.
This first edition builds on the links between education and development, given the pressing need for re-launching an inclusive intergenerational and international dialogue on the paths towards development, in a global context marked by uncertainty in regard to its limits. The relations between education and development started to be discussed more and more by experts, academics, politicians and religious leaders, while the international development framework also reiterates the fact that education is a key driver of economic development. However, a consensus on what the role of education in development is and how development fosters access to education is far from being reached. In addition, Pope Francis, the founder of Scholas Occurrentes, has devoted himself to bringing education to the forefront and has launched a call for rebuilding the Global Compact for Education. Acting in this context, we intend to create a space in which the links between education and development are discussed and within which absent or underrepresented voices join the discussion.
For this reason, by means of the present communication we are sending a cordial invitation to everyone who finds the event of interest and wants to become an active participant in this debate.
Both qualitative and quantitative approaches are welcome and we strongly encourage the representation of a variety of viewpoints. In order to achieve this edition’s aim, the organizers encourage presentations addressing the central topic of the Congress: the links between education and development. Contributions in both English and Spanish that fall into the following sub-topics are welcome:
1. Education and Development: Theory and Practice
2. Education for Development and Global Citizenship
3. Development as a Key International Topic
4. Public Policies and Decision Making for Development
5. Creating Development-friendly Economics
6. Impact of Civil Society in Development
